Item Management
Supply Management Objectives: Overall, this training will help the
trainee develop a basic understanding of the Army supply management system. It
will provide information on the policies and responsible activities that shape
the roles of the specialized Logistician.
Item Management Course Objectives: Upon the completion of this
course, the trainee will be able to perform critical tasks related to the
function of an Item Manager.
Course Description: The Item Manager is a specialized Logistician
that has the overall responsibility of ensuring all items or materiel are
supplied for the equipping, maintenance and operation of a military command.
This course covers both Major and Secondary Item Management.
Course Outline: There are three introductory lessons that are
included in all four curriculums:
- Army Materiel System
- Acquisition Management
- Army Logistics and the Warfighter
These three introductory lessons will provide the trainee with a comprehensive
understanding of the Army policies and procedures in the development of newly
acquired materiel systems and how it is utilized by the Warfighter.
Course Module Descriptions:
| Module I: |
Types, Levels and Class of an Item |
| Objective: |
Upon completion of this module, the trainee will be able to
differentiate between a major and secondary item. Discussion will include
policies on PICA and SICA |
| Module II: |
How to Compute Supply Requirements |
| Objective: |
Upon completion of this module, the trainee will be able to analyze
usage factors and experience data to compute requirement stack, future
demands, assets, backorders and the EOQ. |
| Module III: |
Supply Management and Provisioning/Cataloging Relationships |
| Objective: |
Upon completion of this module, the trainee will be able to understand
the provisioner's and the cataloger's roles in item management. Relating
to the Provisioner, a complete understanding of how to compute for the
initial and replenishment of an item utilizing the ARSIP, SLAC and SESAME
calculations. For the Cataloger, an understanding of NSN, FSCM and the MOE
Rule. |
| Module IV: |
Depot Operations and the NICP |
| Objective: |
Upon completion of this module, the trainee will be able to understand
how the Item Manager determines inventory quantity and supported by the
supply depots (DLA). Discussions will include depot planning. |
| Module V: |
Utilizing Standard Systems for Requisitions |
| Objective: |
Upon completion of this module, the trainee will be able understand
how to utilize DOD's MILSTRIP forms and procedures; utilize the Army's LMP
database (NICP, SARSS for Retail and unit levels) and the Depot's SDS to
manage supply requirements. |
| Module VI: |
CCSS/LMP (government), Powerlog (industry) |
| Objective: |
Upon completion of this module, the trainee will be able to understand
the business processes of the applicable databases for Maintenance
Engineering tasks. |
| ModuleVII: |
End of Course Demonstration |
| Objective: |
Upon completion of this module, the trainee will prove the learning
outcomes by participating in a live demonstration, comprehensive to the
knowledge obtained throughout this course. This exercise will allow the
trainee gain a practicable and holistic point of view of the primary
functions of the Item Manager. |
